Hey Tom,
I 've played with my 650 B for the last 8 years. It is a sustain monster. I can hit a low E, take a break, have a few beers, and go back on stage and it will still be ringing. Other than the fact that it is heavier than a cinderblock around your neck, it gets more compliments and stares than any other bass I own. I use D' Ad half rounds, .45-100. These are not as bright as round wounds, but have fantastic mids and bass. Plus, they are easier on your fingers due to being ground down. Less string zing when you slide up for those solo's.
I just found this site and know your post is an older one. Let me know how you like your 650 B. I have 4 Kramers,( 650 B, DMZ 5000, DMZ 4000 hot rodded with EMG's, and a duke headless) and love each one for their unique feel.
Drop me a line.
Big AL
