Hello.
Does anyone know if Vaccaro- or Hartke 4-string basses with aluneck have necks with same caracteristics as 4-string Kramers with aluneck?

I owned a Kramer XKB-20 some years ago, and it had a superb neck when it came to playability.
I would like to know if the Vaccaro and the Hartke alubasses have necks with the same width and thickness as neck on the Kramer bass . Are they as great as the Kramer to play on?
It would be great if anyone could provide me with the measurements for these bassnecks measured by headstock and by the body.

I've seen Vaccaros with broken headstocks...not something that should happen to an aluminum-necked guitar. I would not ever buy one.

I had the pleasure of having Paul Unkert give my Hartke XK-5 a once over last week. In the discussion he provided me this interesting tidbit. The import version Vaccaro and Hartke basses were the same neck design, with the exception that the cheaper import neck had the rosewood fingerboard and the headstocks are cast aluminum with chrome plating vice and extrusion shaped and polished as in the Asbury Park made basses.

The head snapping is due to the way the casting welds to the extruded portion of the aluminum neck. He gave me a thumbs up on my bass but did warn me that the import necks if dropped or mistreated have this breaking tendency at the weld.

As for playing, they are smoother then the old Kramers. The aluminim "stripe'' on the old Kramers is gone and the neck is encased in maple so you get a traditional feel and your thumb doesn't stick or feel cold like on the Kramer necks. I find my XK-5 to be easy to play, and the string spacing is a little closer then on other five strings.

Hope that helps.
