I am getting a Vaccaro Groove Jet for my birthday. I have heard that there are problems with Vaccaro headstock/neck welding, but they seem mostly to involve the Korean models necks. In fact this has been pretty much confirmed by Unk. The Groove Jet is on of the American Custom models Vaccaro put out, ebonal fretboard and all. It seems to be a pretty lightweight yet solidly built guitar.

So can anybody confirm that they American models have fewer problems? Its a bizarre looking guitar (like somebody squished an sg). I know its more of a hybrid aluminum/wood neck, but this seems to be the best place to ask.

Hi - yes, the American necks/headstocks are welded onto the aluminum and are more sturdy than the Korean models. I have an unassembled American bass neck and there's a spot weld right in the center of the base of the "V" where the headstock joins the rest of the neck. I would have liked to see spot welds on either side of it as well, but it seems really strong and so far haven't heard any horror stories about the American models as I have seen with the Korean models.

Someone sold a broken Korean V2 bass neck and you should see in a picturethere was a tab that held the headstock on that one in place, and that the tab was secured by some kind of tension cable that was used in the truss rod assembly somehow. I tried to buy the broken neck so I could see it myself but lost out.

I have an American X-Ray bass...while I try not to let it fall to test just how strong the headstock is, I really can't see it snapping off unless something really heavy fell on it or it fell from a good height...and at an angle.

Did you get that red Groove Jet that was on eBay just recently? That's a great looking guitar and I'm sure you will love it!

Yup, that red groove jet is now mine and I LOVE it. Looks much better in person than it does online. I kind of lucked out since I have not seen an american made Vaccaro on ebay since, and folks are overpricing the korean ones. Thanks for confirming what I previously thought, as it the thought pretty much stopped me from buying a V2 to opt for the groove jet.
