I've played the tied tied series of strats (I didn't know they had teles) and they were (If I remember correctly) aluminum hollow bodied (that dented easily, the one I played had quite a few dents) but had regular wood strat necks. The necks, however, had the guy who custom made these for fenders name on the front, whose name I don't rmember.

Didn't improve tone or sustain noticeably, to me, but made the guitar seem a little more bright sounding, if anything.

They looked great, however.

Greg Bailey has made completely aluminium strat style guitars. If someone had an original body I dont see why he couldnt make an aluminium neck to suit it.

Here is another link to Tym Guitars. He is an Australian guitar maker who has made custom aluminium necks for guitars in the past. (they are cast, not machined though)

I first became aware of Mr. Bailey about 5 years ago, when I saw an aluminum tele body with a Bailey neck (w/ Travis Bean style headstock, aluminum fretboard) on ebay... It was the most beautiful garbage guitar I had ever seen. It ended up going for about a grand, which was a little steep (for me) at the time. I have since bought a factory reject aluminum strat body and had Greg make an all aluminum neck for it.

I'm guessing that there were many reject bodies, because they crop up on ebay with after-market necks alot. Unfortunately, the aluminum bodies that Fender didn't reject seem to have either a) received god-awful paint jobs or b) got a stupid Harley Davidson badge stuck to the body.

PS - Plug for Greg, his work is impeccable, worth every penny, and the neck he made me is hands down the best neck on any of my guitars.
