|
|
I've never played an aluminum guitar before, but I'm very curious about them because I'm just getting tired of the ol' solid wood Telecaster. I'm looking for something more, with a general warmer tone with a brighter, more colored high end. From what it sounds like, aluminum might be for me, but I don't know of any stores near me that carry them.
What I would really like is if somebody had sound samples that compare what an aluminum guitar sounds like next to a wood guitar, holding all other aspects (such as EQ, amp, etc) constant. I've heard bands that play aluminum guitars before, but I still don't feel that really gets across what is unique to an aluminum guitar.

The beauty of aluminum is that it does NOT color tone (or does very little). It seems to let frequencies through, not blocking certain ones like woods will do. This allows the guitar to have a really thick and punchy low-end, as well as a clear and present high-end tone...without being shrill. This makes for a very powerful and "big" sound. Of course depending on the neck design (neck-through vs. bolt-on) this can vary.
Sorry, no ability to record.

Do you feel an all aluminum body is essential, or can the hybrid design wood w/ aluminum neck design still sound really good?

I have never played an all-aluminum guitar, so I can't tell you what they feel like. My experience comes from (in the past) owning an Kramer 450G and (currently) owning a TB1000S clone. These tow were vastly different in feel and tone.
